- 身高,隊內位置;
- 可能是職場上有點能力,但被排擠打壓,因為被人看為明日之星(被三井嫉妒毆打),害自己失去正常發展機會(首年高中球員生涯報廢);
- 隊內或職場後輩整體水平遠超自己,失去昔日光環(流川櫻木加入);
- 公司舊人回巢或空降高層,被比下去(三井歸隊);
Have you ever thought: I am a commoner, how to seize the opportunity to work with those talented people?
In Slam Dunk, compared to the other four, Miyagi has fewer highlights, and even his talent is not as good as theirs. But he is one of the most popular characters, that most appreciate him because he looks so alike to commoners.
Shohoku Four Tigers
Akagi Talent is tall and strong, although he has rough skills, he is brave and has a good sense of teamwork, and has worked hard on defense and low post skills. He finally became one of Kanagawa’s best 5 and got the attention and conditional invitation from Fukasawa University of Sports, and was recognized by Fukasawa University as being good enough to play as center for the university team.
Sakuragi has protagonist aura, a physical monster, rapid progress. He has speed, height and strength in one, and gradually growing skills. Finally in another work of Takehiko Inoue “real” to confirm that has become the star of tomorrow, his bright spots is too much.
Rukawa, even the Japanese pronunciation is the author’s new creation, the role of the prototype is the NBA basketball history of the greatest player Michael Jordan, shadow protagonist, his bright spots only second to the protagonist. A combination of height, speed and skill, barely a stamina weakness (in fact, already very strong). Highly talented and willingness to train hard, worthy of one of Kanagawa best 5.
Mitsui, given that the two-year window without training, but still a player with great impact in the high school basketball competition, and get the focus of the 1st place in the country “Yamao Industrial High school”, this is already the highest honor. Also his shooting skills is still there, also coach Anzai proved that Mitsui now is better than ever. The MVP of junior high school actually was a golden prove, during the plot year famous player same as his age are Hainan Shinichi Maki , Shoyo Kenji Fujima (The Two Great Guard of Kanagawa). They are the regulars of national tournament, but he got the prefectural tournament champion and MVP. In terms of popularity and fame, at the moment he was the only one, and it is hard to imagine what brilliant achievements would have been made if there was no window of the two years.
If I am a bit like Miyagi…
What about Miyagi?
In fact, his starting point is not bad, at least he was recognized by Ryonan coach Taoka and then intented to recruite him. This is already better than many people. His talent is speed, patience, vision, stealing, jumping and stamina. In comparison, those characters who really don’t have basketball skills are Hikoichi Aida of Ryonan and other nameless bench players. The fact that he is a starting member tells!
Do you ever feel like Miyagi? Maybe it’s because of :
- Height, position on the team.
- Maybe he had some ability on the field, but was pushed down because he was seen as a future star (jealously beaten by Mitsui) and lost his chance to develop properly (his first year of high school was wasted).
- The overall level of the juniors of the team or workplace is superior than you, losing your former glory (Sakuragi and Rukawa joined the team).
- The company’s seniors returns or a new one is parachuted into the top ranks, and he becomes less important (Mitsui returns to the team).
- Your responsibility is always heavier and more difficult than others (Miyagi first against Shoyo’s taller guard Ito, then against Kanagawa’s second guard Fujima, then against Kanagawa’s top guard Maki, and in the national tournament against the national guard Fukatsu of Yamao Industrial High School. Facing all of them means a height disadvantage, lesser experience in the tournament, and struggled more on offense and defense.)
- Even though the workload is heavy, the focus is too little on yourself (teammates’ offensive power is often the highlight)
In short, it’s hard to say what it’s like to work hard and not enjoy it, while others are always more valued even you occasionally proved yourself by excellent performance.
But the environment can not be changed whenever you want, and your position will not remain secured.
How to handle yourself?
- Help the juniors, close the relationship: teaching Sakuragi fake action in training; become good friend when found each other are difficult to find true love, then encourage each other to become better
- Respecting the hierarchy: addressing Captain Akagi as “Danna”, which means “boss” in Japanese; even if he is an old enemy of Mitsui, he also addresses him as “Mitsui-san” with respect after returning to the team. He is a good example of how to distinguish between superiority and inferiority without being blamed; also he never loses respect for Coach Anzai.
- Even though he had a deep hate against Mitsui and even Mitsui slapped his beloved Ayako, he graciously let go. This not only shows his generosity, but also turns enemies into friends, and gains a strong team member into his circle of friends.
- Waiting for the opportunity : The task was really tough, because he was facing the top point guard of the national tournament level for the first time, and his weakness is obvious.Still Miyagi used his own speed to break through the full-court pressure defense; against Shoyo, beat Shoe by his stealing after Rukawa expose the opponent’s weakness in dribbling, and hen Miyagi launched counter-attack, contributed a lot. You can’t always create your own opportunities, sometimes you have to wait and seize them.
It is never easy to be a supporter. It is impossible to become a supporting player without sufficient ability; even if you become a supporting player of a core member, you will face the leading and challenging player together with him and you will be exhausted. This is the objective reality. But as a secondary character, it is more difficult about having a good attitude, because some people will “I submit to the best one, but not willing to assist others”.
There are really such characters in the work, who do you think of? The protagonist Hanamichi (just kidding), love to make a mess. But after all, he is the main character:) In fact, to say that the real culprit of the defeat of Shoyo “Touru Hanagata”.
As I grows older, watching Slam Dunk is not asking for exciting and triumphant, but rather to find out shortcomings and to pursuit avoiding failure. Given an understanding that victory is a combination of many goods while failure can be made of a mistake. Perhaps many Shoyo fans will regret Fujima’s defeat, as it would have been better if he had played earlier. But is it really true that Fujima was slow to react and made a mistake in judgment?
The crime of Touru Hanagata is that he misplaced himself in his mind and indirectly made Shoyo lose.
It is not a fault that Hanagata shew his ability and talent, but since he was the supporter, he should help the core member, Fujimoto. As the second core and the center of the starting lineup, Hanagata refused Fujima to come in to stabilize the situation because of Hanagata’s pride and so-called self-esteem, even though the team captain, Fujima, intended to come in (there are really gestures and actions in the work that indicated the refusal). Although it is true that he scored and stopped the Shohoku offense, the author portrays the expressions and words of Shoyo team members Takano, Nagano and Hasegawa after they saw Fujima sitting down again, which portrayed those “green leaves” who wanted to have Fujima play but were afraid to say anything.
Moreover, Fujima can also return to the coach’s chair after he has beaten Shook, which can also show that Shoyo is a better team, but the only problem is that it hurts Hanagata’s image.
Being a supporter is to contribute as much as possible to the core, and even make his teammates’ stronger. Unfortunately, Hanagata was so insistent on his own opinion that he did not take the opportunity to break Shohoku’s counter-attacking momentum, but instead provoked them by saying that “Shoyo will now be serious”, thus arousing the opponent’s fighting spirit. He did not do what he was supposed to do and made a mistake. Hanagata is a supporter, but he does not and cannot assist others. This is the difference between Hanagata and Fujima. Shoryo, who only has Hanagata, is at best a strong team in the prefecture, but that team is not sure to beat Shohoku in the tournament; Fujima, who is the leader, does not do everything himself but he makes Shoyo’s teammates play to their strengths and take the whole team to the next level, turning them into a strong team in the national tournament.
Miyagi set a good example that he followed and completed during the Shohoku Ryonan Match even Coach Anzai was not participating.
So the supporters and the cores complement each other, and the higher level is that the strong can complement the weak
In fact, Miyagi has done a good job matching the characteristics of the four tigers of Shohoku with his accurate passing and very few mistake was made. Despite the defense toward Hainan Maki because Miyagi was exhausted, despite vs Shoyo there was an overhead interception of his passing, and after all, this is his first time to participate in the prefectural election, it is reasonable, and then did not repeat the same mistake).
Miyagi met requirements to be a good supporter. His overall experience, level and role on the field is obviously more important than beginner Hanamichi (Hanamichi against Shoyo also fouled full and left the game), still he can always cooperate with Hanamichi by passing, playing fast break and matching Hanamichi’s characteristics to increase the influence of teammates, this also increased Mirage’s own value. During the fast break Miyagi always connected to Sakuragi and Rukawa, the field goal always passes to Mitsui Akagi, and then becomes a score. This is the core of Miyagi’s survival, and even in the battle of Yamao Industrial High School , it still works. As the opponent is the top master, he can still play well to represent his own progress.
Of course, Fujima and Maki, these strong cores are willing to assist other teammates to play the higher effect is really valuable, because they have high talent and good conditions and willing to assist, the outcome is surely good. There are many people have good talents but not good enough to overpower other oppenents, the only way is to assist others to make themselves better, this is a fact of necessity.
When I think about it seriously, Miyagi’s situation is really difficult. Without high school national tournament experience, he has to challenge national level opponents, and his own shortcomings also limit his direct matchups to a disadvantage, so he must rely more on teammates. But Miyagi, as a supporter, has a good mentality and is comfortable with his position, concentrating on this path and on making his teammates better, and finally made a great achievement in the national tournament!
If you are in the workplace, the situation is more complicated, because competition exists inside and outside the company, and your teammates can be rivals. But the workplace is not a star team, it is not easy to gather the so-called star staff; and star + star is not necessarily better. Although the flower is beautiful, it also needs the the green leaves to set off. The reality is that there are always more green leaves than flowers, and no flowers exist alone without green leaves. If you are somewhat like Miyagi, let’s think about how to be a good supporter.
